I'd love to play it, but I just experienced a strange thing: The TFTC installer asks me to insert XWA Disc 1, which is already in the drive, but the installer wouldn't recognize it! It can still be opened via the Windows Explorer, and just minutes before I performed a fresh XWA installation from just the same CD. But then the TFTC installer pretends it's not there, the error message keeps popping up as often as I hit retry, until I cancel.... And yes, I've got the original XWA CD, no copy!
I'm using Win98, XWA and TF CD-ROM Edition, both in German language, on an Athlon 650MHz (Asus K7 mainboard, 256MB RAM, Ricoh CD-R/RW)
Anyone got an idea what could be wrong? Thanks!

This may be a dumb question but does XWA recognise disc 1 if you try to play without the TFTC?

Yes it does. I've never experienced any problems with my XWA CDs, only when trying to install TFTC...

There maybe something different on the German version of the disk. Depends what's on it. If you could post a directory listing of the root level of your CD here, that might help for starts: Run CMD.... change to your CD-ROM drive with your XWA CD disk 1. At your D:\> prompt type "dir > C:\My Documents\MyFile.txt" (without quotes). Open MyFile.txt, copy all, and paste here on this thread....

OK, here it is. I had to put it in a table, because without it appeared unstructured... Besides: Is there any way to get a borderless table? I've managed to get my hands on a German version of XWA, it has exactly the same file structure as fiselgrulm disk, guess what the TFTC installed just fine, the only thing I can put it down to is that he's running Win98

I have the same problem with TFTC. How do I do to TFTC to recognize CD1 of XWA ? I am in Brazil, and I have original CD´s of XWA . I don´t believe in problems because CD version in portuguese or german languages. The program TFTC don´t recognize this CD1 because don´t accept any others drivers address. To set example: F:\ or G:\. How to indicate TFTC recognize CD1 of XWA? This procedure below don´t indicate new address to TFTC program !! Run CMD.... change to your CD-ROM drive with your XWA CD disk 1. At your D:\> prompt type "dir > C:\My Documents\MyFile.txt" (without quotes). Open MyFile.txt, copy all, and paste here on this thread.... Best Regards.

I think the installer (current English version) was designed to look for specific directory structures (file paths) on the CD. Unfortunately for the intern'l versions, this currently isn't working because the installer doesn't know how to read the different languages (file paths). Hopefully this can be addressed in the future...

So, recently I got myself a new PC. I'm running WinXP on that, and now the installation worked without any problems!

Without a doubt This is almost giving me reason to upgrade to 2000. Check your mail DS...I just had a similar problem upgrading maybe you may know about it better. Here's another quick quip...everytime I hit OK to when prompted to insert the XWA Alliance CD...my High Speed modem Send light flickers and I send out packets?! Am I registering online? Is that normal...did a netstat and everything looks cool.

Well I also have got the german version of xwa and got no problems during the install of TFTC, so I guess its not a matter of the gamelanguage

Its definitely an OS related issue but I think the biggest difference between the 2 systems is the FAT they use. But then if that were the case, then Me users would be having problems as well I think. I'm reaching here that why I ran it by DS...no reply though. I've had other issues with installing off of CD's leading me to think there's FAT problems. Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 from a cereal box did the same thing and it's clean and undamaged. I checked my system for malware reinstalled my windows installer and still no dice. I have 2 CD drives and they both don't take. There's a NTFS conversion system for Win98 that's freeware and I'm thinking of doing it for the hell of it to see what happens...unless DS has figured out a patch or what the REAL problem may be. I'm probably going to do some OT at work and buy winXP ultimiately just to play this.
