Aside from this my installation is fine.
When a cutscene is required I get sound but no picture. The avi files work fine out of game and I've installed the codecs.
I have to skip to get past it with esc.
Any ideas?.

1.) Look in your Movies folder. For every *.avi file you see, you should have a corresponding "EMPTY" text file with the same name, but with a *.snm file extention.
2.) Downloaded the latest is MS MPEG-4 Video codec V3 ? I'm assuming you also have (Windows XP) WM player 9+ series installed and at least MS' DirectX 9.x drivers and your video card's latest drivers?
3.) You should also have Isildur's modified TGSmush.dll file and the TGSmushOrig.dll files in your XWA root directory. Some of the avi's were complied using "Virtual Dub" which has it's own codec, then compressed with MS-MPEG codec. But I doubt that you need to download and install that just to get the avi's to play in game.
4.) Check to see if your Operating System has your video card acceleration set to full or not. Also check your video settings---resolutions/color depth etc. both inside & outside of the game, and maybe even your BIOS settings. This is overkill, but I can't think of anything else at the moment.

ok
1)Checked all the avis with corresponding .snm files, the 'snm files are all empty (Some werent so I emptied them)
2)Have downloaded the ones off the MS website AND some other ones mentioned. At this point I get sound but no audio.
3)I appear to have these 2 files too.
4)Heh if I knew what to look for.
Card is a Radeon X800 Pro 256MB if that helps.

Hey, was this issue ever resolved? I am experiencing the same problem. Clean install and directions followed below with no result. I also tried changing the video res to match the desktop.
P4 2.6HT 2 GB Ram ATI Radeon 9600

Ok, this may be a solution. It worked for me, but DL at your own risk.... Per the thread "Imperial XWAlliance" at www.xwaupgrade.com posted by Michal 08 September 2004 09:41 PM: "...Install the pack that Rogue518 mentioned. Full Package (Rar archive for Win95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP) (654kB) from this address: www.undercut.org/msmpeg4/-------------------- Michal's Czech X-Wing Series Site" The other link is the exe self-installer file: "uc_ms-peg4_pack.exe"

This pack will be intragated into the new TFTC installer, though if it is already installed, it will not install again.
