Lets have another try. Maybe this time someone can help me.
My version of X-wing alliance is the German original one patched to 2.02. My Tie fighter version is from the English X-Wing Collector series. As recommended the second CD.
My system is a P4 3,2 GHz with a Gforce 7600 GT I ve got 1024 MB Ram and I'm using XP
I ´ve got the following Problem. Everything works fine till the point where I'm ordered to put the Collectors Series CD into my CD Drive. It recognizes that the CD is the right one and the progress bar advances and the "converting voice files" bar moves. After a few Minutes my CD Drives stops but the "converting voice files" is still moving. The progress bar has stopped at approx. 95 % (almost at the end). From then on nothing happens although my CPU is significantly used.
Please help me. I want to play this game. I loved it that much when it came out. Is it perhaps of my German version?

You have to be patient, the files are first copied from the CD to the hard drive, then they are converted to a format that XWA can use, they are then copied from a temp folder to the wave folder, it does take a while, between 10 & 15 minutes, perhaps longer?
Therefore the CD drive will stop when all files have been copied over to the HDD, the CPU will continue to be used until all files have been converted and copied over to there correct wave folders.
Have you waited for the installer to finish or have you forced closed the installer?
Plus I can't remember if the v1 installer is compatible with the German version.
Version 2 is though, and has been tested but this has yet to be released, sorry I don't have a date for that though

Thank you for your quick reply. I´ve appoximately waited for 20 - 25 Minutes. Maybe even longer. After that I´ve forced the programm to close via the task manager. But does it take that long to install tftc? Perhaps I´ll let it work while I´m away. And if that won´t work I´ll wait untill you release the version 2 installer. Is there a way to test if the problem is my german version? Thanks for help.

Hello Hube,
i've installed the german XWA-CD and the english collectors series CD. There was no Problem. Only some sounds where mixed german/english.
I gues, if you own the german version of XWA you speak german. So you can contact me in German too.
greets obiwan

I'm having an problem very similar to Hube's. I'm running a patched 2.02 with TIE95 on a Vista system. However, these are English-language disks.
Everything goes smoothly up until its time to put in the TIE disk. After a few minutes, the disk stops turning and the process seems to stall.
As I write this, my computer has been "converting voice files" for perhaps more than an hour, and this is my second attempt at this, yielding the same results as the first. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I'm very excited to see how this mod plays.
It may also be worth noting that TIE95 seems to have trouble playing on Vista, as it wants to DirectX5.2 and won't start without doing so. When it tries to do so, it says the *.exe program has to be launched manually from the CD directory. Haven't tried that yet, as I don't want to send my computer back to the 1990s and mess up things for Alliance/The Mod when things to finally start working.
Again, any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!

Sorry but we can not support Vista, I make the installers, but I only have a WinXP machine, and I'm in no rush to upgrade to Vista, which means I have no way of testing the installer other than to test it on winXP or below that.
Also remember these games where produced originally for Win98, X-Wing Alliance itself is 8 years old, you can't expect everything to run perfectly.
Hopefully Version 2 will be much better and run on Vista, but like I said at the top of this thread we don't have a date for that!
Sorry!
Oh one more thing you do not need TIE95 to be installed, you just need the disk in your CD Drive for the installer to copy voice files and start converting them.

Thanks, DS. You've done a monumental amount of work to make this happen, and I certainly hope I did not seem ungrateful.
The game installed on the second installation. After stalling at the 95% percent mark for hours, I decided to shut the computer down and try again the next day. When Windows tried to close the program, the installer suddenly finished. I was able to cancle the shutdown and the rest of the install went smoothly. I'll actually be playing the game again shortly. =)
One oddity I did notice is that the campaign mode used the audio files from the X-Wing alliance rebel campaign. The text and images are still very much correct for TF, so it is still very, very playable. Just a little wierd to hear Akbar talking when sitting through what is otherwise an Imperial breifing =).
Thanks again for all your work, and I can't wait for the expansion campaigns.

Anything to help out, DS.
Ran the app, and it did create the new folders. However, they all appear empty, and the game still uses the XWA briefing and mission voices.
Otherwise, the game seems to work without a hitch.

Ok Try this version www.darksaber.gaylenol.com/temp/WCTv1.5.exeAgain it will ask you for 1. XWA Disk 1 2. XWA Disk 2 3. TIE Fighter Disk (depending on which you selected) 4. XWA Disk 1 But now when it has finished, take a look in your XWA DIR C:\Program Files\LucasArts\XWingAlliance (By Default) You will should see two new Folders, respective of each disk that has installed wave files. 1. WaveXWA you should see all the wave folders and 2. WaveTIECD or WaveTIE95 depending on which version of the Tie Fighter disk you have. In this folder you should see folder called Frontend within this folder from folder from B0M1 to B7M5, each of these folder should contain converted Tie wav files. You should also see Missionvoice and again you should see folders from B0M1 to B7M5 again with wav files in them. If this has worked you could rename WaveXWA to Wave, if you haven't already manually copy the wave folders off the XWA disks you could do the same with the WaveTIECD or WaveTIE95 copy and paste the Frontend and missionvoice folders to wave This should be a temporary fix to hear the Tie voices until v2 comes out. I hope this version works, otherwise installing on Vista will be a no go, sorry!

Ok.
The installer ran without a hitch up until it was 48% through the TIE95 section of the installer, approximatly where the other one stalled as well. Once there, it sat. I could hear my CD drive stop spinning and go still. I left it there for approx 30 minutes, and still it showed no signs of progress. From there, I tried the same trick I had used to get all the other installers to finish: I told the computer to shut down.
Sure enough, when Vista asked if I wanted to shut down the installer, the installer started moving again. It jumped to 64%, then to 95, then done. Somewhere in there, a program named something like nb206 stopped running [REALLY should have written down its name].
Looking in the XWA directory on my computer, the folders you describe do exist. However, they are empty. When I tried running the mod again, the results were unchanged: The missions are flyable but devoid of dialouge, and the briefing dialouge is from XWA, usually from somewhere on Disk 2. From playing through it, it appears that mod-specific dialouge related to the R2 unit (a great touch, btw) and winning the Medal of Valor did work.
I hope that, if nothing else, this helps the progress with further mods and updates to the game. It plays great, and the lack of voices is only a minor loss. If can be of any future assistance, let me know.
