HI! Just checked another MOD team that is doing into the "Jedi Academy" engine, a conversion of another great old Star wars game: "Dark Forces". And found that they have "remastered" its old MIDI music. The same author that made this also did a sample with the Tie-fighter MIDI music we all love... Check it here: darkforces.jediknight.net/downloads/tiefighter.mp3Of course this is not up to orchestrated music but personally i think is fantastic and love how it sounds even at this level. May be if you want it, and ask it to them to coperate and do the rest of Tie-fighter plays for the Tie-fighter MOD, sure they would like to cooperate in such an effort. Of course is just an option, what do you think?

Thanks, I've been looking for a Tie Fighter song in mp3 format. And yes, it does sound great. Now if I could only figure out how to make it work as a ringtone...

Hi Berruga, Actually that's on the TFTC "to-do" list, by writing a script or program that will extract the midi files from the user's CD, append them to wav format, then import into .imc format with correct looping headers etc. during the install process. Kind of low on the list for now (time-wise). If anyone (musician) would like to re-write their own music from scratch that sounds like the TF music, that would be great. Probably would sound better than the midi music anyway. An orchestra arrangement like John Williams' high quality music would be awesome... but that's wishful thinking. I'll checkout that link though. Thanks.

Hi, I feel the issue of MIDI tracks was important enough an issue that thought I'd register just to be able to post my opinion on this.
To me, what made the original TIE Fighter so special (and what makes me play TieCD over Tie 95) was the iMUSE system. This is seriously one of the most sophisticated dynamic music systems ever created and I honestly felt the most cinematic.
The iMUSE system was extremely situationally sensitive in very subtle ways too. It works very similar to the X-Wing Alliance music engine but is more dramatic in that it can slowly turn on and off instruments and fades, as you get closer to the combat zone to heighten the tension and suspense. The transition between tracks was also alot more seamless with the MIDI soundtrack too.
On top of that, TIE Fighter's soundtrack was one of the few ORIGINAL soundtracks created for Star Wars games - typically most have some sort of loop and copy paste of the original musics in the movie. The TIE Fighter soundtrack was amazing in it's originality and how it was so faithful to the underlying, familar musical tones of the original movies, yet totally different.
I especially loved how it had the well known Rebel Alliance theme but distorted to sound sinister and evil - like terrorists! I honestly do not feel John Williams could've done a better job with the music in TIE Fighter - imagine how the TIE soundtrack would've sounded with a live orchestra.
As you can tell I was really really in love with the old TIE Fighter music and I know it's the one thing that gets lost amidst all the interest in recreating the game - that usually being saved for the graphics and quality of gameplay. I wish it were technically possible for XWA to reproduce all the subtle effects of the old iMUSE engine such as instrument activation based on distance, bearing and opposition faction (a great example of when MIDI having advantages over WAV / MP3)
Just my fanatical 2 cents

That remaster of the TIE Fighter opening song is awesome! I always wondered what the music could have sounded like with better technology - like you've already mentioned, this game had a whole new orchestral medley of pieces composed for it. (Like the characteristic little trumpet flourish that start off when you're on the ISD's Concourse.)
It would be great to see this made into a fully-dynamic and context-sensitive soundtrack for this very good game!
Again, thanks to TFTC and all the programmers and fans that keep this wonderful game alive!
