It didn't work then, but did it copy the xwa wave files from the cd to WaveXWA?
Plus on the TIE95 part did it copy *.voc and *lfd files to a folder called Wavecon, Front and Mission folders this will be a hidden folder in the xwa dir
While the installer is on the tie5 part of the install, go to your XWA dir and look for a folder as I said WaveCon
This is all I need to know

The XWA files were copied into WaveXWA. In the TIE95 folder, only the mission voices loaded (the Frontend folders are empty).
I don't see a folder called wavecon, and I think I have the hidden folders set to visible.
In your last post, I was a little confused as to exactly what should be copied into/over what. Could you clarify?

It doesn't matter it didn't work, so you might as well delete then WaveTie95 folder and the WaveXWA
I'm afraid Vista users won't be able to run the TFTC, unless I can find a different way of converting the TIE wave files

Well, its not that it work at all. Just that there isn't as much sound as one would like. Otherwise, its still a great, great experience and a spot-on recreation of the original game.

Ok. After 8 months its finally me again . I´ve probably got some intersting news. I´ve bought myself a new Computer and Vista as my new OS. After reading redblades post I thought I should give it another try and install TFTC again. And guess what: Everything worked smoothly and without the slightest problem ;D. So in my case a quad core CPU and vista didn´t cause any problems concearning the install process. The only thing I noticed as I played the first two missions are some mixed up sounds. Mixed up in a way that they are either german / english or XWA / TFTC. But that surely aren´t any hardware problems and it doesn`t matter any more for me now. I´m totally happy that I´m finally able to play the old missions. Many thanks to the developers. It´s absolutly awesome. If I can help you in any way let me now.

Hi!
I have the same problem installing the TFTC. My XWA disk 1 is in the CD drive, and the installer doesn't recognise it. How can I install this to the win98 operated system? This computer is an older one, so it's the best to play XWA. I installed the TFTC on my other computer with Windoes XP, and it was okay. But, when playing the first Tie mission, it froze in the middle of the mission. Everything worked fine, (I could shoot), only the screen was frozen. It has a Nvidia Geforce 7500 video card, so the text in the games was very bad.
This win98 computer is: CPU: Intel Celeron 2,4 Ghz, Asus P4S800, RAM: 512 Mb, Graphics: 64 Mb Nvidia Geforce 4 mx440.
How can I solve this problem?

Does your win98 pc has usb slots? Then I recommend putting your XP XWA installation into an usb stick to transfer it to your 98 pc.

Hmm. Good idea. It has USB slots. I will try that out as soon as I can.
Thanks.

masasolo, do you have latest video card drivers for your video card, and also perhaps latest bios drivers for your motherboard ? Sometimes the older AGP video mini-port drivers for the motherboard itself can be the issue. Be careful and know what you are doing if you look into that.
Hopefully USB way will be an easier work around for you. May need to switch out CD-Rom drive.

Update for those having that "installation stopps" bug: I had that one, too, but it didn't matter. Here's my solution: It worked for me to just eject the CD from which the computer was installing, a minute later the installation asked me to insert the next one. When there was no access to the drive after a couple of minutes, I ejected that disc, too, and the installer would ask for the next disc soon. Everything is perfectly all right, I played all the 7 battles included in the TFTC1.0 release. Only thing is that the original TIE Fighter messages "Attacking your target" and "mission critical craft under attack" are not played, instead I get the (german!) XWA "Nachricht von missionskritischem Schiff: Ihre Schilde sind unten". So I take it those files are just not converted / replaced.

Well, I've got 2 solutions: Get the english versions or ask someone for the english voices.

I have the english version now, thanks to ebay... Fun to play XWA again. Due to graphics problems, I'm playing on by onboard GPU now instead of my Radeon 3850HD, stupid, isn't it? But the only way to make it work properly...

Sorry about necro'ing this thread, but I'm having a similar installation problem. The TFTC Voice Converter has been converting the Tie Fighter sounds for quite some time now. When checking Task Manager in Windows, it seems that a process called "ntvdm.exe" is using 99% of my cpu, with some variability. For anybody who has gotten this to work, what do I do to get this to complete?
