1. Problem: Frustration.
I've tried everything I can think of to get the conversion to work. I've even found a sound file converter to convert the VOC files to WAV, but I realized I don't know the file structure or what to do with all those files, and don't really want to have to rename them all one by one either.
I absolutely can't find anyone who has a 32 bit operating system. My win XP computer died a few years ago. I've tried setting up Win ME on VMware and installing it there. The game installs just fine, but I'm getting the 'Can't find XWA Disk 1' error when the TFTC install asks for the XWA disk.
I've tried with the CD in the drive, with a newly-made image of the CD loaded through the VM's drive emulator, by finding and installing an old enough version of Daemon Tools to install within the VM Win ME and load up the image within the VM itself, and by examining and playing with the XWA registry settings in the VM, all to no avail. All told, I've spent about 30 hours on this project.
I could try and find my old Win XP upgrade disk and have at it again with VMware, but I've really spent too much time on this as it is.
Would anyone out there be willing to zip up the folder and make it available to me?
2. OS: I'm using Win 7 64 and also a VM with Win ME upgraded to directx 9c, but with no other updates applied.
3. XWA Language Version: I'm using the English versions of the games, which were bought in North America, if that makes a difference.
4. TF Version: Tie Fighter CD (have the floppy version too)
5. System Specs: Phenom II 965 @ 3900mhz with 16GB of RAM (256 RAM available to the VM and Win ME) using an Nvidia 560 ti Hawk.
